self-esteem counselling

“After a tough period in my life, I was experiencing panic attacks daily and struggling with past trauma. My anxiety was debilitating and getting through each day was a challenge. Initially I was very anxious about sharing subjects of shame with someone, however Alex made me feel immediately at ease and I quickly became comfortable in our safe space. After struggling with anxiety and insomnia for several years, I never thought I could be someone that now sleeps soundly every night.”

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy can provide you with much needed clarity when life seems full up, with no room left to think. As a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I provide you with a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space in which to explore issues that you are facing, to look more closely at the impact that these are having in your life and to begin to gain new perspectives.

As an integrative practitioner I am able to work flexibly with you, with my work being informed by different approaches including Gestalt, Person-centred, Psychodynamic and CBT. This means that I am able to work with you in a way that will best suit your individual needs. It may be that you would like to be come to counselling to speak about a specific issue, and that this work may last for a shorter time. Or that you would like to come for longer term work, where you might want to explore, for example, past experiences and relationships and how they are impacting your current relationships and living in the present day.

I view counselling as a collaborative process between myself and my clients and I will frequently check in with you to see that the sessions are maintaining focus. I also value the counselling relationship that is built in sessions, as one where you can feel safe enough to explore difficult topics, but also where you can perhaps be challenged to look at things from different perspectives.

Some of the areas that I work with include anxiety, depression, social anxiety, trauma, narcissistic abuse, neurodiversity, lack of self-confidence, bereavement, loss, sexuality and gender.

Low-intensity CBT

If you are having problems with low mood, social anxiety, worry, OCD or more generalised anxiety I also have specialist knowledge in working with adults and young people using low-intensity CBT. This can provide you with the skills to challenge more negative ways of thinking and move forward with your goals. Low-intensity CBT is a fascinating way to look at how your thoughts may, in turn, be impacting your behaviours and emotions in unhelpful ways and can provide space to challenge this, so that more helpful thinking styles can be established.
